Awda Gnaiem Hosen, Director of the Arabic-language mental health helpline at the Sahar Association (Online Assistance & Listening) and a lecturer at Ono Academic College. In her role, she leads the field of volunteering, with an emphasis on integrating volunteers from Arab society into the mental health support field, and strives to raise awareness of mental distress and the importance of seeking help. Additionally, she works to create models of community involvement, belonging, and a sense of mission. Over the years, she has held significant positions in the field of social work, including managing programs for at-risk youth and leading training and guidance processes on mental resilience and suicide prevention for professionals from the Ministries of Education, Health, and Welfare. Awda holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem; a master’s degree in Social Work and a second master’s degree in Group Facilitation, both from the University of Haifa. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Work at Tel Aviv University on a research track, centered on the study of trauma in Arab society and its accompanying social, cultural, and psychological consequences. Married, a mother to three special children, and lives in Sakhnin. Awda sees her work as a profound mission to promote mental health, develop personal and community resilience, and shape an inclusive, sensitive, and accepting social discourse.
