A Social and Cultural Initiative born from a collaboration between Tahrir and Binah that aims to empower local communities through cultural expression and joint creation, which strengthens their sense of belonging and local pride.A young musical ensemble of six musicians from different backgrounds was established in Lod, and for a year they created a unique performance that connected cultures, styles, and identities. The performance opened the youth events at the city’s Bamizrah [In the East] festival, and became a symbol of artistic and social connection. The joint creation by musicians from different backgrounds inspires the young audience to dream of a society where ‘together’ is a common melody.
From their personal experience as parents of children with disabilities, Zohar and Roy identified the need for guidance, support, and a human embrace, especially at the moment of diagnosis and at the beginning of the journey. This led to the creation of “Mother to Mother,” a community-based mentoring initiative in which experienced mothers of children with disabilities support mothers at the start of their journey, offering emotional support, practical knowledge, and tools to strengthen their sense of belonging, identity, and personal resilience. The initiative spans four months and operates across three complementary components: training and support for mentors; one-on-one mentoring alongside professional support for new mothers; and group meetings to build a community foundation. The first cohort is set to begin at the end of 2025. Partnerships are welcomed with organizations and NGOs working in the fields of disability, family, and community.
A unique course for learning sign language that is delivered in real time by a deaf instructor from whom participants learn the basics of the language. The course plays a significant role in expanding exposure to issues related to the world of sensory disabilities. The idea was born before the Covid crisis, after which it became relevant and necessary and has the potential to expand. The course opens a window to the deaf community and to a culture unfamiliar to the hearing public, promoting a connection between hearing and deaf people. The initiative has expanded greatly since 2020 and, in parallel with the operation of online courses for beginners, courses for advanced learners have also been developed. The courses are offered for sale to organizations and schools.
